About this item
Fans and Kimonos fascinate me because of the intricate artwork in the stitching and decoration. My same friend Kainani told me that after her Tutu passed away, she discovered a huge trunk full of old fans that her grandmother had collected. One of them was in a box marked "Winter Fan." The name was so incongruous (why does one need a fan in winter?) and the fan, like so many of her others, had delicate mums painted on it, but Kainani reminded me that even in the Hawaiian winters, the church was stuffy and hot. Perhaps it was lightweight fan, or perhaps it reminded Tutu of winter somehow, but Tutu's name "Winter Fan" inspired the painting.
Some old kimonos and obis provided the inspiration for the painted fabric, and I treated the painting as if it were a scroll, with a band of delicate brocaded decoration across the top.
This is an 8" x 10" signed giclee. I stapled it around stretcher bars, so put a ribbon around it to hide the staples, or suitable for framing (no glass).
Enjoy!
