About this item

Seated Halau Dancer was one of my earliest posters in Hawaii in the 1980's, and went on to become an image that was universally recognized and one of the most popular in the islands. It was reproduced on mugs, prints, posters, postcards, greeting cards, t-shirts, calendars, and clothing.
It has always represented peace and tranquility to me, almost a kind of cameo painting of a hapa-haole woman of the islands with traditional white holokuu and upswept hair.
It was part of the inspiration for my "Mango Hill" series children's books, where the Mouse on Mango HIll becomes "Halau Mouse" and saves the occupants from the centipedes that live under the lychee trees. In the book, she sneaks into the artist's studio and sees the painting -- and imagines that she looks exactly like "Seated Halau Dancer."
This is a giclee on canvas. I stretch them myself over bars, sign them (and will personalize if you tell me the recipient's name). It's suitable for framing no glass) or run a ribbon around the edges to hide the staples and hang as is. This is also available as a limited edition serigraph (I have a very few left) so inquire as to availability, size and price, if you are interested.
When you look at this giclee hanging, imagine yourself as a mouse. . . who sneaks into the artist's studio. . . and thinks: "This is really, really ME!"
Enjoy!
