One Mother's Day, we found ourselves on Maui, and revisited Seven Sacred Pools. One of my daughters bent way over the water to see her reflection. I said sharply "Get back, you might fall in." I heard myself, for the first time, and realized I sounded like my mother speaking to me when I was little and did things that were a little-bit-risky. When I bent over to look into the water, I realized that there is a point in all of our lives when we come full circle, and become our mothers.
The original painting was inspired by that moment. Prints were created for a limited edition Mother's Day celebration; very few are left. I sign it, and can personalize it if you specify to whom. I stretch it around stretcher bars, and it can be framed as is (no glass please!), or just run a ribbon around the sides to cover the staples, hang, and enjoy!
And I promise you, one day you look at your reflection and you will see your mother looking back.
