About this item
Drive up the Old Pali Road into Nu'uanu Valley and on your left, you will find a large stretch of grass, a pond made of old lava rock, and further in, the watershed system that provides Honolulu with water. It is a quiet, serene spot, beautifully maintained by the Board of Water Supply, and surrounded by the Ko'olau Mountains.
Years ago, I asked one of my models to come to the pond to pose for photographs so I could paint a picture of this beautiful location. When we arrived, we found not only lily pads, but koi in the pond. She reached over the edge, held out her hand, and one of the fish came up to her. I snapped the photograph, did the painting, and to this day, whenever I see it, I remember that peaceful, quiet day in the lush gardens around Nu'uanu Pond.
This is an 8" x 10" giclee print on canvas. I personally stretch them around canvas bars to order, and I sign each one "Aloha, Diana Hansen-Young, 2012." I will personalize it (To Sally, Aloha, for example) if you request it in the note along with your order. It's suitable for framing (no glass, please), but perfectly fine hung as it is, with a ribbon around the edges to hide the visible staples on the sides.
It's a serene and peaceful place to retreat after a long day. I haven't been back in years, and I often wonder whether or not the koi are still there. Aloha!
