My friend Noelani has two daughters that were the same age as mine when I painted this original picture way back when.
She sat for a photograph, and I did a portrait of her with her two daughters. My girls and hers were all playing together, and we were talking, and I said: "Just for fun, sit back down there with my two daughters." She did, and this was the result!
I had a thought: The two little girls were almost interchangeable in the way they looked. Their differences were known to us, their mothers, and their families. But there was a universal concept here about motherhood that spoke to me, and that was the concept that all of our children are all of our treasures. We are all Noelani, and children are all of our treasures, which is where the name of the painting came from.
This is a signed 16" x 20"" giclee on canvas. I've stapled it over stretcher bars. Run a ribbon around the side to hide the staples, and hang it as it is, or it's suitable for framing (no glass).
