A full moon rising over a waterfall on Maui is a subject that has fascinated Hawaiian artists for years. This hula dancer is dressed in an old pili grass style hula skirt, and sits alone, contemplating the moonrise, a haku lei on her head.
It's a thoughtful piece, contemplative, with unusual and dramatic colors, unlike most other pieces I have done.
This is a giclee on stretcher bars from an original painting. You can frame, or hang on the wall just as it is.
Watch the moon rise over a waterfall, staining the water with the colors of the rising light, and think about how the moon has risen over that same watercolor with those same beautiful colors for tens of thousands of years, even when there were no people to marvel at it.
